The SkyNet Hybrid dual-mode terminal uses cellular frequencies when in range of networks to communicate vessel location and other vital information. The terminal automatically switches to satellite service when out of cellular reach, ensuring constant visibility and communication. In addition to dual communication capability, the Hybrid is equipped with ports to connect to devices like temperature sensors or text-messaging devices.
The Hybrid adds quad-band GPRS capabilities to its satellite transceiver to create an integrated dual-mode satellite/cellular terminal that is ideal for tracking and monitoring assets travelling between the shore and deeper waters. This terminal uses cellular frequencies when in range of terrestrial networks and seamlessly switches to satellite service when cellular service is not available, thus providing cost savings without sacrificing global coverage.
